Year 7 Latest News

Tollymore Residental.

On Wednesday 5th June, the year 7 pupils and their teachers headed off on their annual residential to Tollymore National Outdoor Centre. The children had an amazing three days at the centre, where they got to take part in activities such as mountaineering, bouldering, kayaking and the high ropes course. The children also got to spend the evening in Newcastle town centre where they were able to indulge in some ice cream and have some fun on the bumping cars!

A thoroughly great time was had by all and the children will really have some memories for life!

Day Four

In Mr Black’s class the children played some online maths games to test their memory and logic skills.

While in Mrs Campbell's the year 7's took control of the Astroturf pitch to do some orienteering. There were lots of coloured cones carefully arranged on the turf and the children were given a map of them. However, 12 of the codes were numbered on the map and had a code stuck on the inside of them. The children had to use mapping skills to find them and record the code on a sheet. It was great fun, the only complaint being that it was too easy! Next time it will be much more challenging. It is worth noting that the girls triumphed in all 3 groups as they were the first to find the 12 cones with their codes.

Day Three

Year 7 conducted a traffic survey in 2 different parts of town. Mr Black’s maths class went to the court house on Loy Street and Mrs Campbell’s went to the hockey club on Molesworth Street.
The children made their own choice on what exactly they were surveying. Some opted for colours of vehicles while others decided on type of vehicle or make of vehicle.
Various aspects of the survey were discussed and decided on before we left. Consideration had to be given to the direction of traffic surveyed. Both classes decided on surveying traffic travelling in one direction only.
However, as the volume of traffic was much lighter on Molesworth Street, Mrs Campbell’s class quickly changed to surveying two-way traffic.
The children will be collating their information and using it to produce a variety of graphs on Microsoft Excel.

Day Two - Maths Week.

Today in Numeracy, year 7 began their lesson by playing some interactive mental maths games. In these images the pupils were challenging a friend to take them on in a game of Last Man Standing! Our winner today was Jay Wilson!!
