*Attention CPS pupils aged 7 – 12 years old*

JK Rowling is releasing chapters of a new book for children at the minute.  Her new book is called the Ickabog.  Click on the link below to read the first few chapters she has already released.

https://www.theickabog.com/read-the-story

Here is the exciting part!!! She is also running an art competition for 7-12 year olds, along side it.  Children can send in illustrations which could be selected to be published in the actual book later on in the year. We have amazingly creative pupils in CPS - wouldn't it be fantastic to have their own illustrations published in JK Rowling's book!!!!

Details here on how to enter:

P.S congratulations to those who have got their art work displayed on the BBC Wonder Gallery.

Virtual Sports Day

Dear parents and pupils,

Unfortunately due to the fact that there will be no actual sports day this year, we have decided to give ALL pupils the opportunity to participate in a VIRTUAL SPORTS DAY.

Please read the two attachments below which explain what is involved.

If your child wishes to participate click the link below to register.
https://healthy-kidz.com

Then you will receive your own unique username and password so that you see the events you have to practise and what simple equipment that you need. You can even put in your results to the virtual sports day. It is very simple and straight forward. We hope as many pupils as possible will take part.

Please take photographs if you can and upload them to your teacher on Google Classroom so that we can see what you have been doing.

Many thanks,
All the school staff

Key worker update

It is vitally important that the school is aware of how many children of key workers or vulnerable children will be attending next week (25th - 29th May) in order to ensure that appropriate supervision can be arranged.  With this in mind, if you are an identified key worker, please inform me by email (info@cps.cookstown.ni.sch.uk) by 2:00pm on Friday 22nd May. Please include the name/s of the child/ren and the day/s that you require the support.  I will then email you some paperwork that requires completion (if you haven’t already done so).

Please remember, every alternative childcare arrangement should be explored before deciding to send children to school.  School should, in effect, be a LAST RESORT.  This is in order to comply with general public health advice on social distancing and limit the number of children and adults together in a small space in line with recent social distancing guidance.  In addition, if you work part time, you must only use the service for the hours and days you need.

The Wonder Gallery

The BBC would like pupils to send in their art so that it can be put onto their Wonder Gallery! This is a digital exhibition open to everyone in NI between 4 and 18.

Every week, they are inviting children to submit an electronic copy of a new piece of art they have created at home - it can be on paper with crayon, on canvas with paint, or digitally on a tablet or computer.

To keep everyone on their toes, an original theme will be set each weekend by an artist on BBC Radio Ulster's The Culture Café.

This week's Wonder Gallery Challenge is set by Nick Sharrat and it is on the theme: Extraordinary Animals!

We have amazingly creative pupils and we think that they and their families - as well as their teachers - would love to see their art work celebrated in this way.

The rules and guidance are found on the BBC website:

Mums and dads - please show this to the boys and girls.....

Boys and Girls - as a thank you for all your hard work on Google Classroom - the teachers and assistants have recorded a song for you. They sang their part in their own homes and sent it to school where it was joined with the other voice parts to create a 'virtual staff choir.' We want you to know that we are immensely proud of you and we miss you. Remember - We are all in this together - Keep strong and keep working hard!
