Mr Black’s International Study Visit
Over our half-term holidays I had the privilege of travelling with six other teachers from across Northern Ireland to Edmonton in Canada, to take part in a study visit. The aim of the trip was to see how the community can be engaged in school life in other parts of the world.
During our visit we met with the Alberta Education Department and had the opportunity to visit many unique and interesting schools. It was fantastic to see how children are being taught in a different part of the world and how parents and the community are involved in the school’s life. I have returned to school with some great ideas to bring to my own class!
'All About 100' Day
The aim of the our year 7 Numeracy task was to think about probability and whether or not the chances of something happening worked out accurately or as we predicted. To test this, in pairs, we tossed a coin 100 times and rolled a dice 100 times and recorded the outcomes.
It's Zumba time in Year 7!
During the month of January, the Primary Seven classes have been taking part in Zumba classes on Friday afternoons, under the guidance of Evelyn Kane. The pupils (and the staff!!) in P7 have found it to be a fantastic learning experience, learning new routines and also keeping fit it in a really fun way. During February and March we will be beginning to learn the dance routines for many other popular songs, some of which will be used in P7 Leavers’ Graduation.
Year 7 visit to “Bee Safe”
On Monday 18th January the P7 classes walked to the leisure centre for a series of workshops related to personal safety. After being divided into groups, everyone went off to different stations where they were given short talks and they also took part in various workshops. Some of the activities were related to internet safety, safety around the home, basic first aid, fire safety and also safety involving school transport. It proved to be a most enjoyable afternoon which was also invaluable in making our pupils aware of the many dangers we face on a daily basis.
