Playgroups, Pre-school and primary school admissions criteria are now live on our website. We have answered some of the common questions that people have been asking.
WHAT ARE ADMISSIONS CRITERIA?
Each Playgroup, Nursery and Primary School set its own criteria for admissions. If they receive more applications than they have places available, they use these criteria to decide who to offer places to.
WHAT AGE DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE TO APPLY TO PRE-SCHOOL OR NURSERY?
Target age – Children born on or between 2 July 2018 and 1 July 2019. You can apply for a funded pre-school place for September 2022 in a Nursery Unit of a Primary School or a Nursery School or a Voluntary/Private Playgroup participating in the Pre-School Education programme.
Penultimate Age – Children born on or between 2 July 2019 and 1 July 2020. You can only apply for a funded pre-school place in a Nursery Unit of a Primary School or in a Nursery School. A child of Penultimate Age, born on or between 2 July 2019 and 1 July 2020 can only be admitted after target age children are admitted and funded places remain.
Penultimate age children cannot apply to a Voluntary/Private Playgroup participating in the pre-school Education programme.
WHAT AGE DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE TO APPLY FOR A PRIMARY SCHOOL PLACE?
Children born between 2 July 2017 and 1 July 2018 can apply for a Primary 1 place for September 2022.
Not yet – applications will open on 10 January. We will remind you closer to the time of the citizen portal opening.
We publish the admissions criteria before applications opening to allow you to read and familiarise yourself with the criteria.
It is important to note that applications are not considered on a first come first served basis. Applications will only begin to be considered after the application process closes on 28 January.
