Year 6 Term 3
2nd Jun 2026
Year 6 have had a truly exciting and memorable term, full of adventure, creativity and fun. One of the highlights of our learning has been taking part in the Pushkin Project. Through this, pupils engaged in a wide range of inspiring activities that allowed them to explore their creativity in meaningful ways. They expressed themselves through art, music and creative writing, producing imaginative work and developing their confidence as creative learners. The project encouraged collaboration, curiosity and a real enthusiasm for learning, making it a very enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
We have also made the most of the beautiful weather by taking our learning outdoors as much as possible. Outdoor learning has been a fantastic way to bring lessons to life and keep pupils active and engaged. A particularly memorable activity was measuring the length of the Titanic using a trundle wheel. The class worked together carefully to measure the distance and were amazed to discover that the Titanic is the same length as the distance from the courthouse to Cookstown High School. This really helped pupils to understand the enormous scale of the ship in a practical and meaningful way. We also enjoyed playing time bingo outside in the sunshine, which was not only great fun but also reinforced important learning in an active and engaging way.
In addition, Year 6 have been involved in important vision work for the school. Pupils took time to reflect on what makes our school such a special place and shared their ideas about how it can continue to grow and improve. They talked thoughtfully about their hopes for the future and how they can contribute positively to the school community. As part of this work, we enjoyed a dedicated afternoon of team-building activities, where pupils developed their communication, cooperation and problem-solving skills. Activities such as board games and table tennis helped to build teamwork, resilience and strong friendships within the class.
Another highlight of the term was our visit to the Cookstown High School taster day. We had a fantastic time and were warmly welcomed by staff and pupils. The children took part in a range of engaging and enjoyable activities, including music, science, art and numeracy. This experience gave pupils a valuable insight into life at post-primary school and helped to build their confidence and excitement about the next stage of their education.
Overall, it has been a fantastic term filled with rich learning experiences, laughter and opportunities for pupils to grow both academically and personally.
