Year 5 Investigate What Liquids Do to Our Teeth!
Year 5 pupils carried out an exciting science experiment to find out which liquids are good for our teeth and which ones can cause damage. Instead of using real teeth, we used hard-boiled eggs, as their shells are made of a similar material to tooth enamel.
We tested the effects of water, milk, pure orange juice, vinegar, and cola by leaving the eggs in these liquids for a few days. When we removed them, the results were surprising!
We discovered that pure orange juice and cola caused the most damage because of their high sugar content and acidity. We were shocked to learn that although orange juice seems healthy, juicing fruit changes the sugar levels dramatically!
