Year 5 Explore Measurement in the Playground
Recently, our Year 5 pupils took their maths learning outdoors as they explored a variety of measuring instruments in a hands-on, practical session in the playground.
Armed with rulers, metre sticks, trundle wheels, and measuring tapes, the children worked in small groups to measure a range of objects and distances—from the length of benches and the height of playground equipment to the length of the big playground. The activity not only reinforced their understanding of units of measurement but also encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and real-world application of mathematical skills.
It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic, turning our outdoor space into a dynamic learning environment. Well done, Year 5!
