Year 5 Explore Ancient Egypt with the Ulster Museum!
Year 5 took part in an exciting live lesson this week with the Ulster Museum, as part of their “Museums on the Move” programme. The class received a special box filled with real artefacts linked to Ancient Egypt, creating a truly hands‑on learning experience.
During a live Microsoft Teams session, pupils were able to engage directly with a historian from the museum. They asked thoughtful questions, explored the artefacts in detail, and completed activities in their learning booklets.
The workshop included several fantastic practical tasks:
- Grinding blue stones to create paint, just as ancient Egyptians would have done.
- Writing their names in hieroglyphics on papyrus using traditional materials.
- Trying Egyptian‑style moisturiser, discovering how people cared for their skin in the past.
- Handling linen, similar to what would have been used to wrap mummies.
The pupils loved the opportunity to become historians for the day, developing their curiosity and understanding of life in Ancient Egypt.
A huge thank‑you to the Ulster Museum for allowing us to be part of this special experience.
Well done, Year 5, for your enthusiasm and excellent participation!
