Year 5 Begin Creating Ancient Egyptian Death Masks
10th Feb 2026
Year 5 have made an exciting start to their new art project—creating Ancient Egyptian death masks inspired by the famous mask of Tutankhamun.
To begin the process, pupils carefully drew around a mask template onto cardboard and then cut out their shapes. They attached the mask to the cardboard backing using masking tape and added a toilet‑roll tube to create the raised chin detail, just like on real Egyptian masks.
The class are now really looking forward to the next stage—papier‑mâché—when their masks will begin to take shape and gain strength ready for painting and decorating.
Fantastic work so far, Year 5!
