Year 5 Art Project: Creating Egyptian Death Masks
This week, Year 5 continued working on their exciting art project: creating Egyptian death masks. Pupils have been building their designs step by step, and this stage involved covering their masks with papier-mâché to create a smooth, sturdy base ready for painting.
The class really enjoyed mixing their own PVA glue and water solution, learning how to get the consistency just right. Using strips of newspaper, they dipped each piece into the mixture, carefully squeezed out the excess, and then placed the strips onto their masks. Pupils focused on smoothing down the layers and avoiding bumps to ensure a neat finish.
Once fully covered, the masks have been left to dry over the half‑term break. Everyone is very excited to return after the holiday and begin painting and decorating them in the style of Ancient Egyptian mask designs.
We can't wait to see the finished masterpieces!
