Year 5 – Exploring the Digestive System
Over the past few weeks, Year 5 have been diving into the fascinating world of the human body. This week, our focus was on the digestive system — and what better way to learn than by becoming the digestive system ourselves!
Using bananas and crackers, the children acted out each stage of digestion, discovering how saliva in the mouth and acid in the stomach help break down food. There were some brilliant reactions to the texture of our “digested” food — just take a look at their faces in the photos!
We then explored how the small intestine absorbs nutrients, while the large intestine deals with what’s left behind. It was a hands-on, slightly messy, but incredibly fun learning experience!
Well done Year 5!!
