Year 4 LM Visit to Killymoon Castle – A Journey Back to WWII
On Monday, 16th June, Year 4 LM visited Killymoon Castle as part of their World War Two topic. The children embraced the spirit of the era by dressing as evacuees, and they looked absolutely fantastic.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by an American soldier from the 505th Parachute Infantry. The children were then outfitted in surplus American uniforms and began their training camp experience.
As part of the day’s activities, we explored an Anderson Shelter located on the castle grounds and learned how to salute like both American and British soldiers.
Following our training, we were privileged to tour the interior of Killymoon Castle. Our guide, Dorothy, led us through the grand rooms and into the basement where soldiers were once stationed. A highlight of the visit was seeing the original writing left by soldiers on the walls—a powerful reminder of the past.
Year 4 had a fantastic time throughout the day—and even picked up a few cleaning tips along the way! No excuses now!
