Today, we pause to remember.
At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month 1918, the guns of war across Europe fell silent. Today we join the nation to honour all who have served and sacrificed — especially the men and women from the Mid Ulster area who gave their lives during the First and Second World Wars.
As historians, we understand that remembrance goes beyond quiet reflection — it involves recognising the profound human impact of conflict, both in the past and in our present. The stories we uncover from over a century ago remind us that behind every headline and in every era, war leaves lasting marks on individual lives and communities.
This year, as we remember those who fell in the great wars, we also hold in our thoughts all those affected by conflict around the world today — civilians, families, and those working for peace.
Through remembrance and education, we honour the past and reaffirm our commitment to building a more peaceful future.
