Outdoor learning in Year 3

18th May 2026

Outdoor learning can be especially engaging when pupils work with a partner to create symmetrical pictures in the warm sunshine. Sitting outside encourages calm focus and creativity, while drawing together helps children communicate, cooperate, and check each other’s ideas. As one person draws a shape, the other mirrors it, developing a clear understanding of symmetry through real, hands-on experience. The natural light and fresh air make the activity feel relaxed and enjoyable, supporting wellbeing as well as learning. By combining teamwork, art, and mathematics outdoors, children build confidence and deepen their understanding in a memorable and meaningful way.
