Evacuee day in Year 4
We had a fantastic trip to Killymoon Castle during our evacuee day! One highlight was exploring a jeep that had been used during the war and in the Philippines. As two of our children are from the Philippines, this made the experience even more special and exciting for them.
Some of us were put through our paces by a sergeant, who taught us how to march and salute, giving us a real taste of army life. Meanwhile, Mrs Coulter had us busy cleaning the castle and completing jobs just as evacuees would have done during the war.
We were also fascinated to visit the dungeons, where parachutes left behind by American soldiers could still be seen. The soldiers had even carved their names into the walls, bringing history to life in a powerful way. We finished the day with a visit to a real-life Anderson shelter, which was a memorable experience for everyone. A big thank you to Mrs Coulter for making this wonderful visit possible!
After lunch we got outside into the sunshine to play games that children played during the war – hopscotch, skipping, battleships and pick up sticks.
