Music in the Spring
Once again it has been a busy term for the musicians in Cookstown Primary School. The Junior Choir travelled to Dungannon Music Festival on Tuesday 5 March. They performed brilliantly and behaved immaculately. The children were awarded second place and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
Following this, the remaining music groups were eagerly preparing for their Spring Serenade, on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 April. The musicians were joined on stage by our Years 1, 3 and 5 children – all performing their own unique items. Year 1 treated us to ‘Hats off!’ Year 3 children performed a sketch called ‘When I grow up,’ and the Year 5 children taught us a little bit about what they had been learning about the Egyptians. Our Traditional Groups & Orchestra played a variety of songs and the Junior & Senior Choirs also performed. On leaving the hall, parents commented about how talented our children are and what a wide variety of entertainment they had been provided with. Thanks to Peter Mitchell & Bianca Zeelie for compering the whole performance so eloquently, and to our stunning Year 7 soloists – Kayleigh McFadden & Gloria Reid – we know these girls’ names will appear in lights some day – just remember who taught you first!!!
Once again the children at Cookstown Primary School have had another busy term, music making galore! Our Christmas season commenced early in November when the Year 7 choir were invited to perform at the Festival of Christmas Trees, hosted by Mrs Dorothy Coulter at Killymoon Castle. The children thoroughly enjoyed standing on the steps of the Castle and performing in the hall…..and Mrs Cuddy enjoyed getting to play the grand piano too! We then went from Killymoon Castle to Mid Ulster in Harmony at the start of December – what a fantastic music-filled morning it was. Finally, the culmination of our term’s work was our ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’ concert which took place on Tuesday 11 December and Wednesday 12 December, featuring the orchestra, drum corps, traditional groups and our three choirs. Alix Graham, Maddie Jordan and Rebecca Ferguson also performed a mime to the song, ‘Mary, did you know,’ This proved to be a firm favourite with the audience and beautifully executed. Well done to all the musicians for a term’s hard work!
