January Music update
The children in our Junior & Senior Choirs, along with our instrumental groups have a busy term ahead. We are planning to do a Spring Showcase in school later in the Spring term and the choirs and orchestra will be performing in some local festivals. (Dates to be confirmed) As a music team, we are sad to say farewell to our drum and brass tutor, Mr Kenny McAree who leaves us to begin a new job in Magherafelt. We would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all his work and wish him well in his new ventures. We look forward to welcoming a new drum tutor to the school in February/March.
For many years there has been a strong tradition of music in Cookstown Primary School, with performances by various extra curricular groups both in school and in the wider community.
There are currently three choirs (Infant Choir, Junior Choir and Senior Choir) in the school, an orchestra, a traditional music group, a drum corps and a saxophone group. We are also in the process of forming a brass ensemble. There are five peripatetic tutors who provide group lessons to children learning instruments and a team of five in-school specialists who are responsible for the delivery of curricular music and extra curricular groups.
Foundation stage teachers deliver their own curricular music.
